A. Students identify and analyze diverse information needs of individuals and communities.
LIS 6603 Answering Reference Questions Assignment demonstrates my ability to identify information needs, conduct effective reference searches, analyze patron inquiries, and use diverse databases and information sources. Using a variety of reference tools, I applied query analysis and interview techniques to deliver accurate, credible, and contextually appropriate information for patrons. (PDF Version)
LIS 6577 Community Analysis & Graphic Novel Development Assignment demonstrates my ability to analyze demographic data to understand diverse information needs. Also to do so in order to inform inclusive and responsive library collection development and programming. In it, I analyzed data from St. Pete, FL using the U.S. Census Bureau to understand community characteristics, including age distribution, cultural diversity, and socioeconomic factors. I then applied these insights to recommend graphic novel selections and programming strategies that support literacy, cultural representation, and community engagement. Presented in video format, this assignment demonstrates my ability to translate data into actionable library services and communicate those ideas effectively to a broad audience.
B. Students evaluate and select print and digital information resources and systems to meet needs of users.
LIS 6603 Annotated Bibliography Entry Assignment is an example of my ability to evaluate and recommend credible information sources based on user needs. In it, I assessed O*NET on its authority, accuracy, currency, objectivity, coverage, and usability for a high school student exploring careers. It’s an assignment that proves my skill in critical source evaluation and aligning resources with patron inquiries. (PDF Version)
C. Students understand and use appropriate information technology for information services.
LIS 6603 LibGuide Creation Assignment shows how I can organize and present complex information resources in a clear and accessible format. In it, I developed a comprehensive research guide that curates scholarly databases such as JSTOR and ProQuest, reference materials, government documents, and reputable organizations including the FBI. This guide demonstrates my ability to create LibGuides as well as my skill in information organization, source evaluation, and creating user-centered research tools that support in-depth exploration of multifaceted topics.
